Copper Bands Around
Stainless Steel or Bronze
Round
Peace Pole
 Pictured
at left is a stainless steel pole with copper bands wrapped around it. At right
is one made of bronze with copper bands. The one at right is larger in diameter
and its patina is in an early stage. Its colors will change. The sections of
bronze that are greenish will become a darker, smoother green and the blue copper
will become red like the copper in the photo at left.
The one at left is a prototype - which means it is a rough
draft. Since it was a rough draft, I didn't use the same caliber of stainless
steel that I use on final products. The stainless steel on yours would be
brighter and shinier.
Both poles have 33 translations with the names of the languages
next to them labeling which is which. You can pick which 33 translations from the list of more than
100 available here.
The tops are interchangeable. You can choose either top for
either pole. The one at right has two Mercator Projections of the earth back to
back. Since you never can see more than half of a cylinder at any one time, you
never seem both at once, but you do see almost the whole earth wherever you
stand. However, with each step you take around the pole, you see the earth from
a different perspective.
Beneath the Mercator Projection is a gap separating it from a band three inches high
with seven symbols on it. The repeating symbol could be a dove with an olive
branches in its beak, or a Sadako Crane, or other symbol or text of your choice.
It is expected that there will be some customization after learning more about
your interests - possibly even a top entirely different than either of these.
Either of these peace poles will be 33 inches in
circumference, a bit less than 14 feet tall and cost $4,900 plus $400 for
shipping.
Between the height, diameter and the number of translations, as far as I know these are the largest peace poles available anywhere. I have built
larger on special commission, but in terms of peacepoles that are already
designed and ready to be ordered, I think these are the largest there are.
Depending on the time of year, these could take twelve weeks to finish, with
so many translations.
Another photo of one of these can be
seen here.
