Bhutan is the nation where the term "Gross National Happiness" was coined in 1972. They measure progress by that instead of Gross National Product. For them Gross National Happiness is built on four pillars - sustainable development (including modernization), cultural values, environmental conservation, and good governance.
The Bhutanese call their country Druk Yul which means "Land of the Thunder Dragon."
