6-Sided Copper Peace Pole

Showing a different patina and cap

6-sided peace pole made of copper and stainless steel

Hexagonal peace poles go way back. The hexagon is one of the traditional shapes for peace poles. I created 5-sided peace poles, in part, to increase the mass of peace poles. "Mass" in art has to do with "presence" created by having enough size, or mass, to carry the message. Six sides increases that further.

Each side is 4 inches wide.  It is 10' 9" tall. 2.5 feet of it goes underground.

Caps

This peace pole also is available with the cap seen on the 7-sided peace pole.

If you have seen a cap that you like elsewhere on this site, I probably can make it for this pole for you.

The color of this cap will change. On this one I left it with much of its original copper color for how that ties it visually to the copper color of the text, which I thought would be interesting for a while. But it will be turning a deeper red in the weather, like the color of the pole in the photo below right. That's one of the interesting things about peace poles made of copper. They can be made almost to have a plot, like a novel or a play, in which an author begins a story in one place, but it is a progression that will be going someplace else. This peace pole was being shipped to a location with enough rain for the plot to develop in just a few years. There are drier locations where I have given it a patina that had been pushed further along because otherwise the plot would not have finished in our lifetimes.

Patina

The patina varies not just by design, but also because of the randomness of the process. Sometimes I have to do a peace pole over again to get closer to what I intended (which is not a small amount of work). However, I can make the patina blue, like on my five-sided copper peace poles, if you prefer that. Or I can make the patina similar to any patina you see on the plaques. Or I can make it look like what you see in either photo on this page.

Languages

As with all peace poles, you choose which translations get put on your peace pole. A list of over 100 translations available is here.

Cost

It comes with six translations and costs $2,000. Shipping is $300. Additional translations can be added for $100 each.

(By the way, in case you are wondering why six sides costs this much more than five sides, besides the extra translation and the extra copper in the pole, there is substantially more cap to build for a pole this much larger in diameter.)
